Luke Escombe
From sweaty tin shacks in rural Queensland to the stages of the Melbourne Comedy Festival and Edinburgh Fringe, Luke has been hitting the road hard in 2011. His one-man musical comedy show picked up 5 star reviews and drew comparisons with Nick Cave and Flight of the Conchords, while his rocking 4-piece band got dance floors heaving up and down the East Coast.  Their first single - “Drop tha Bomb” – shot to number 4 in the AIRIT national radio charts, and the resulting music video led to a front cover shot in MX and a free plane ride to the Edinburgh Fringe courtesy of Arts NSW. Taking an old world roots vibe and giving it a sharp, comedic twist, Luke Escombe and the Corporation mix funky, literate pop and flippant hip hop into an infectious new style called: “Flip Flop”. Turn on, tune in and flip out as they head to Cockatoo Island this November to launch their next single.

"Stellar musicianship” - Herald Sun

“Hilarious ...****” – Threeweeks.com, Edinburgh Fringe
“Indsiputably one of the best kept secrets in the Australian music industry” – Jarred Keane, The Dwarf.com.au

Luke Escombe introduced himself as a distinctive voice on the Australian music scene with his 2008 debut "Golden Ages", which garnered national airplay and critical acclaim. One of its songs, The Blame Game, was used as part of Worldvision’s Stir the World campaign, while another two were featured on the Homegrown Roots compilation series, alongside new songs from the likes of John Butler and Paul Kelly. For its Sydney launch, he called on the talents of National Jazz guitar award winner Aaron Flower, bassist Kevin Hailey and drummer Jamie Cameron, under the banner: “Luke Escombe and the Corporation”.

After playing the main stage of the Peats Ridge Festival and a succession of Sydney residencies and East Coast tours, the band released 2 innovative live EPs – “Chronic Illness” and “Live in the Studio” , showcasing an exciting style of music that mixed funky, literate pop and flippant hip-hop into something called “Flip flop”

Meanwhile, on a recent rock and roll tour of NSW and QLD the band went into the studio to record their debut single: “Drop tha Bomb”, a funny, hard-rocking track about airport security procedures.  The single was a hit on community radio stations across the country, spending 4 weeks in the top ten of the AIRIT national radio charts. The outrageous music video, in which Luke played three different characters, including a deviant airport security guard named “Mario”, is currently racking up hits on youtube.
